Varilux Physio™
In 2005, Essilor introduced Varilux Physio™, a new progressive
lens boasting innovative design and production features.
The breakthrough technology developed by Essilor researchers features Twin Rx Technology™,
an exclusive procedure for measuring surfaces, and advanced digital surfacing, a
technology for producing complex surface designs on the lens with point-by-point
accuracy.
The new lens offers better contrast in distant vision, wider areas of clear vision
at mid distance and enhanced comfort and clarity at close range, whatever the light
conditions.
Tests conducted among 2,000 Varilux Physio™ wearers and 150 eye care professionals
in several countries confirmed these benefits. Varilux Physio™ is protected
by eight patents, including five for the lens design and three for the manufacturing
process.
Unveiled in January 2006 in roughly 100 countries, the lens will gradually become
available in different organic materials - 1.5 to 1.74 and polycarbonate by the
end of the year.
Varilux® Ellipse®
Introduced in 2004, Varilux® Ellipse® is a progressive
lens specifically designed for small eyeglass frames. It is sold worldwide and became
available in a wider range of materials in 2005.
Varilux® Panamic®
Introduced in 2000. The fifth generation of progressive lenses was another innovative
milestone. It offers presbyopes record-fast adaptation and an expanded field of
peripheral vision.
