EYE CARE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

DIABETES

In some diabetics, but certainly not all, there can be leakage from the retinal blood vessels.

The images below are photographs of the back of the eye of persons' with this condition captured by Digital Retinal Photography.

In the first image, leakage shows as red or yellow spots or larger areas which can damage vision. In this particular eye the patient was unaware of any problem. This emphasises the importance of regular eye examinations

In the second image, some leakage from the retinal blood vessels can be seen in the form of small red spots as before. However, previous leakage has been reduced by using a laser and this can be seen as a circle of light dots in the central part of the retina. This works almost like a spot welder.
