More Contact Lens Types
Contact lenses fall into the following categories:
- i. Daily disposables. Ideal for daily
wear – wear once then throw away; no additional solutions necessary
- ii. Monthly disposables. A more economical
option for those who wear their contact lenses more frequently.
- iii. Extended Wear Monthly Disposable.
A lens that is possible to wear overnight. These are made of silicon hydrogen –
a material which allows the maximum oxygen through to the eye.
- iv. Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses. These
are the most durable contact lenses (though not always the most comfortable to wear).
- v. Non Disposable Soft Contact Lenses.
This is the most economical way of buying soft contact lenses. In many cases, they
can last between 12 and 24 months.
- vi. Multifocal Contact Lenses. These
contact lenses correct for both distance & near.
- vii. Astigmatic Corrective Contact Lenses.
For the correction of astigmatism.
- viii. Coloured Contact Lenses. Can
be used for both cosmetic and prosthetic purposes.
